Men, Women, and Chainsaws
Joy Wood

When I was four, my father's back
was turned. I tested the pruning saw
on my finger. Softer always cedes
to harder on the Mohs scale: fingernail --
two out of ten; knife -- five and a half.

Men love seeing women scream, fear
or orgasm, that different fear. Women
love seeing men unraveled by a single
tug: drawstring, elastic, skin.
