She Did Not Immediately Get A Cat
Elizabeth Ellen

There were words she never thought she'd say and now she was saying them. She turned, eyeing him suspiciously. She'd been tricked once before. Back in '94, the year Kurt Cobain blew his brains out; a different man. Now it was the same way with another. She'd said no, no, no, no, no and then she'd said yes. She'd said, I am not a believer, and now here she was professing belief. She wondered if it were simply a matter of perseverance: no, no, no, no, no, yes. If anything could be got from her given enough time and elbow grease. There had been a third man in between. With him she had only got as far as: no, no, no. It was unclear if he had lacked the will or something else had happened. He had said he was allergic to cats and she had said she liked cats. She had said no, no, no and then he had left. She did not immediately get a cat. She still does not have a cat.
