Between the Lines
Glenn Taylor

I have taken
your plums
that were in
the icebox
and set them
on the counter.

They were
taking up
too much space
and
I found it
too hard
to fit in
my Malibu.

I ate just
one or two.

Ignore the teeth-
marks in the
rest, the dimples
in round
purple flesh.
The saliva
that makes them
look market
sprayed fresh.

I imagined
they were
your girlfriends'
cherries
which I also
took
and ate.

Forgive me,
but they
were both
in hand's reach
and easy
to move.
